We are writing this blog post to disambiguate between RedStone Oracles, a modular oracle providing data feeds to all EVM-compatible L1’s and L2’s and Redstone Chain, the home for onchain worlds, games, and apps built with the MUD framework,
To be clear, the two projects are operated by different companies, and offer different products and services in the blockchain ecosystem. In the spirit of web3 and coexistence, we have both agreed to maintain our current names, with the understanding that RedStone Oracles refers to the modular oracle service and data provider network running the RedStone Expedition and Redstone Chain refers to the Layer 2 solution and the first in-production implementation of op-plasma.
RedStone Oracles
RedStone Oracles is a Modular Oracle provider specialising in delivering data feeds to dApps and blockchain ecosystems, especially yield-bearing collateral for lending markets, like LSTs & LRTs. By responding to market trends and developer needs, RedStone Oracles can support assets not available elsewhere. It offers the most gas-optimized data feeds on the market across 50+ chains & all rollups. The modular design allows for data consumption models tailored to the protocol’s requirements. Protocols can choose between Core (Pull) for the high frequency of data updates and a broad range of assets or Classic (Push) model if it requires the most popular oracle interface. It is trusted by Morpho, Pendle, Venus, ether.fi and many more.
To date, RedStone Oracles has raised almost $8M from Lemniscap, Blockchain Capital, Maven11, Coinbase Ventures, Stani Kulechov, Sandeep Nailwal, Alex Gluchovski, Emin Gun Sirer, and other top VCs & Angels. It has been live on Mainnet since January 2023, securing $2bn up to date.
Redstone Chain
Redstone Chain was built by the Lattice team, and evolved from the need for a home for applications built with MUD, Lattice’s engine for onchain applications. Redstone Chain runs the op-plasma DA protocol, a service built by Lattice as a part of Optimism’s OP Stack, allowing for even more cost-effective transactions than existing L2s, making it ideal for a new wave of onchain worlds and games. It operates like a traditional optimistic rollup, except instead of posting the input state to L1, it posts a data commitment hash. Redstone Chain is aligned with Ethereum, with no need to rely on a permissioned DA council or the security of any non-Ethereum DA services; anyone can inspect and challenge the validity of the L2 right from the Ethereum L1, plain and simple.
The Redstone Chain Holesky testnet is currently live, with several MUD games already offering playtests, and will be launching its mainnet soon. The community is comprised of a strong cohort of indie developers who are building projects on the frontier of onchain technology.
Coexistence
RedStone Oracles and Redstone Chain have come to the agreement to coexist with similar names. While we are different teams, we’re both deep believers in the collaborative and positive-sum nature of web3, and are rooting for each other’s success.
